Games That Interested Me in 2024’s Game Showcases Part 1

Games I found interesting during 2024 Summer Game Fest!

I’m a bit late on this, but forgive me I was busy behind writer’s block as my neighbor was being loud as hell when I was trying to write. I definitely wanted to get this done before I dived into Next Fest Demos and I worked tirelessly to be able to do that (I am not missing demos). As showcases do have overlap in what games they showcased, I am only going to point out the ones that interested me at a first seen first serve kinda deal. Also, I’m not going to sit through damn near 30 hours of IGN Live. Though it does seem like a lot of the announcements I saw on the recap was either the showcase themselves or were a part of a showcase, so that’s good that I didn’t miss much.

ACG French Direct

Playstation State of Play

Before I get into the games that caught my eye, can I have to mention Concord. Concord looked so interesting and the dialogue was actually good, managing to not go over the line of being annoying, but hearing it’s a 5v5 shooter killed my interest. The cutscene really made it look like it was going to be a good single player game with a group of characters that already have an established dynamic. I’m going to mourn it.

Infinity Nikki

Infinity Nikki is an open-world dress-up adventure game coming to PS5, with a beta test due later this year. Alongside Nikki, awaken the magical powers hidden within various outfits and embark on a journey filled with fun.

Honestly, I’ve wanted to play the Nikki games for so long. Like, I’m all for dress-up games and the characters look so cute. However, it being on mobile locked me out. I actually knew about Infinity Nikki for a long time, when it was only teased, and I’m so happy we got a trailer here. I’m especially happy that this is coming to Playstation so I can finally play a Nikki game. Infinity Nikki looks so good and I don’t even care that it’s an open world game. I’m definitely going to participate in the beta and I can’t wait for the full release.

Astro Bot

Astro is back in a super-sized space adventure, his biggest to date. In this brand-new game, you will explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. The game launches this September 6, with pre-order beginning June 7.

I am so for Astro to have another game. Astro’s Playroom was so unexpectedly great and I’m excited to see what this one has in store.

Until Dawn

Get a new look at the seminal horror classic, which has been rebuilt and enhanced for PS5 and PC. When eight friends return to the isolated lodge where two of their group vanished a year prior, fear tightens its icy grip, and their mountain retreat descends into a nightmare with no escape.

I’m not really sure whether or not I’ll get this remaster, but I did love Until Dawn when it came out. So I’ll probably keep a lookout for it. I most likely won’t get it right away though.

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 2 launches October 8 on PS5. The creators behind this psychological survival horror remake delve deeper into the new gameplay and narrative details on PS Blog.

Man, I wished I played the original Silent Hill 2 or that the PS3 release wasn’t in the state it was in. Though, whether this remake will be good is still up for debate. Man, I wished we lived in a universe where Konami didn’t lose the source code for Silent Hill 2 (and 3).

Marvelous Game Showcase

Farmagia

Command an army of monsters in this all-new action game featuring character designs by famed manga artist Hiro Mashima. Take a stand to free the people of Felicidad as a Farmagia named Ten when monster farming, adventure, and hectic battles come together in an epic tale of rebellion and friendship.

I want to see how the gameplay is, but Farmagia does look and seem interesting so far.

Horror Games Showcase

Sorry, We’re Closed

Sorry We’re Closed is a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game with rich lore, deep characters and multiple endings. Explore unsettling locations with fixed camera angles. BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW is a first-person psychological horror game that explores the impact social media has on mental health through the story of Anne, a victim of bullying trapped in a surreal nightmare where she must solve a dark mystery and confront sinister creatures.

Another one I already know about! This is another game that has a demo out if it also interests you.

Bye Sweet Carole

Bye Sweet Carole is a narrative-horror game inspired by the greatest animation movies and created by Chris Darril (Remothered series). Follow the last known trail of Carole Simmons and discover what is happening in the eerie Bunny Hall…

Yet, another one I already know about, but this time it’s a gameplay trailer I haven’t seen yet! This makes me want to play the game more and hope that we get a demo.

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days

Texas, 1980. Walton City has fallen to a zombie outbreak. Lead a band of desperate survivors from refuge to refuge by scavenging, crafting, and fighting in a relentless struggle for survival. Plan wisely, stick together, and — above all — keep moving if you want to make it out alive.

A game I’m just learning about and oh man does it look interesting. It reminds me of This War of Mine, but with zombies.

They Are Here

First-person horror story about a journalist who witnessed an alien abduction at the Grayswood farm. The game is inspired by such movies as Signs, Dark Skies, The Gracefield Incident, The X-Files, War of the Worlds and many others.

This one seemed interesting as well, being a horror mystery game. The mystery seems interesting and it’s the classic finding yourself way over your head. There’s a demo available.

Night of the Consumers

RETAIL IS HELL! Start your new job in a store overrun by maniacal consumers and their unrelenting thirst for customer service. A true minimum wage nightmare.

Oh my gosh. I was not expecting Night of the Consumers let alone that it’s releasing on Steam. I can’t wait to see how the full game will be!

Nightmare Operator

NIGHTMARE OPERATOR is an action horror shooter about hunting Youkai in the haunted ruins of Tokyo. Combat fuses the tense, shooting gameplay of classic survival horror, with the skill-based mechanics and execution of fighting games and spectacle fighters.

This one grabbed my attention right away and while I’m not entirely sure about this being a shooter, the enemy designs look great.

#BLUD

Save your friends, fight off the vampire apocalypse, and survive the horrors of freshman field hockey practice in #BLUD, a delightfully zany animated dungeon crawler that blurs the line between action RPGs and hyperkinetic 90s cartoons.

A genre-bending RPG inspired by the classic Paper Mario games! When a greedy megacorp from the real world starts taking over fairytales for their cheap labor, a newly-hired storybook hero must climb the corporate ladder, rally together other disgruntled employees, and fight back!

Man, I couldn’t have seen this trailer at a better time with me literally completing Paper Mario a few days ago. This one also has a demo available!

Project Tides

The first TRULY Expressive 3D Platformer set in an open world, by the minds behind Demon Turf & Slime-san. Stay tuned for the full game announcement!

This one was just a teaser for a future announcement, but it seems interesting. And it’s made by the Demon Turf team (which I still need to play).

Clock Tower: Rewind

The 16-bit nightmare returns. Survive, hide, and avoid the deadly Scissorman in this legendary horror classic.

I never played any of the original Clock Tower so I’ll probably pick this one up. I loved the new anime opening and the voice acted manga-style cutscenes.

Post Trauma

Post Trauma is a horror game inspired by genre-defining classics of the past decades. Play as Roman, a middle-aged train conductor trapped in a terrifying twisted reality. Explore the unknown, unravel mysteries, and try to survive the unspeakable horrors that lurk in these threatening surroundings.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit

Survive five nights of terror in this chilling adventure game. Travel between time periods to solve puzzles, gather clues, and outrun the threat relentlessly pursuing you. Move swiftly and stay hidden, and you may just survive. But be careful—it’s not just your own life that’s on the line this time.

Ah another game to mess with the lore. Well, this one is so different from the other games, the scenes with the more detailed artwork looks good (and even a bit scary), and I’ll most likely pick this one up when it releases.

Cozy Dungeons

Explore deadly dungeons, clear them out of enemies and renovate them in Cozy Dungeons, a one-of-a-kind adventure/interior design game!

I do wonder the combat will feel in-game, but I do like the premise of clearing out a dungeon and renovating it for a client.

Creatures of Ava

Let your empathy guide you as you play an exciting action-adventure, creature-saver game. Understand and tame the creatures of Ava and let them lead you through a variety of ecosystems – all in the hopes of saving the planet from a life-consuming infection.

Right as I was thinking that this game better have you break when you fall down, it happened haha. Though, it did the unexpected and have you play as a yolk until the shell regenerates, which seems to be like a second chance mechanic.

Motorslice

In the ruins of a megastructure, a girl arrives with a single objective: Destroy every machine inside.

Dungeon Clawler

Dungeon Clawler is a Roguelike Claw Machine Deckbuilder. Build your unique deck, fight enemies by grabbing weapons and items from a claw machine and find special artifacts that help you on your quest to reclaim something you lost… Aim carefully to claw your way through this dungeon!

Oh my gosh, they did a good job grabbing your attention with the opening, but I’m a bit iffy on the gameplay. I do hope this gets a demo sometime before release so I can try it out.

Wild Tactics

The Wildest character-driven tactical strategy game you’ve ever seen! Build your team and maintain their relationships in the war against organized crime. Uncover the conspiracy in the animal-populated city of Clawville, and find the mastermind behind its downfall!

I liked the look of the trailer cutscenes, but I would have preferred to have some gameplay being showcased. Looking on the Steam store page, it looks like it’s going to be a tactical turn based game.
