My Top 10 Favorite Ongoing Webcomics

April Fools! Now get in here so I can finally talk about webcomics.
I’m pretty bad at coming up with April Fools jokes, especially when it comes to posts, and I may have totally forgotten. My computer problems, some stress, and storms took up my attention. But hey, I’ve been wanting to talk about webcomics for a while now and what better day to do it than April Fools! Where I can go off topic! To be honest, I was debating on doing three posts, but since this is a bit of a last minute thing, I decided to stick with one post focusing on my favorite webcomics that are still ongoing. I mainly read on Webtoons and with 256 webcomics that I’ve subscribed to (plus however many I’ve read and dropped or Daily Pass ones I finished but didn’t sub to) it was hard to pick just my Top 10. Heck, picking the Top 10 for ones still ongoing was hard despite taking the completed ones out of the picture. So, let’s get into my favorite ongoing webcomics! These aren’t in any particular order and I, of course, linked to where you can read them.
Ava’s Demon
Webtoons Version
Ava’s Demon is about a girl named Ava and the demon haunting her. The demon, however, might just be the ghost of an alien queen, Wrathia, seeking revenge on the one that destroyed her empire, a god-like figure named Titan. The story follows Ava as she makes her way across the universe, teaming up with Wrathia on a quest for revenge, while fighting her inner demons along the way.
I came across this when it was uploaded on Webtoons two years ago when the Kickstarter for Book Two was still active. I’m so glad that it caught my eye cause I was hooked to the story and its characters and quickly went to pledge to the Kickstarter so I could get Volume 1 and 2 (and you best believe I’ll be getting the other Volumes once they either come out or have a Kickstarter too). While updates fluctuated between being regular and really slow, I love the world that Ava’s Demon built and you can really tell that so much was put into the characters and the worldbuilding. I also believe this has been in the works for at least a decade and you can see how the art style developed over the years if you read it on the official website. While I did start reading it on Webtoons, I have now moved to reading it on its official website since the Webtoons version is lagging behind. I wholeheartedly recommend checking Ava’s Demon out. This one even has some animated scenes, which are pretty cool!
Now on where you should start this one at…I’m a bit unsure. I myself started on Webtoons and then moved to the official website, but the official website does have some really cool and unique panels where it messes with the usual structure to make some impactful scenes more impactful. Though, Webtoons does give you the videos and gifs panel by panel (since you can’t really just post a video as an episode and only Originals can put in gifs as a panel) which does let you get a better look at the beautiful art. Either way, both have its advantages, but if you start with the Webtoons version definitely go to the official website once you read all of the available episodes so you can get fully caught up.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint
Dokja was an average office worker whose sole interest was reading his favorite web novel ‘Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse.’ But when the novel suddenly becomes reality, he is the only person who knows how the world will end. Armed with this realization, Dokja uses his understanding to change the course of the story, and the world, as he knows it.
This is one webcomic I’ve been reading ever since I first found out about Webtoons. I love the story so much and the visuals are unreal. So much has happened so far and I can’t recommend this one enough.
Odd Girl Out
After a successful winter break makeover, Nari is finally ready for her high school debut. But somehow, she ends up friends with the three prettiest girls in school! Follow Nari as she tries to navigate her brand new high school life surrounded by beauties.
Another webcomic I’ve been reading ever since I first started reading Webtoons webcomics! This one has been going on for a long time too and I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do when this one ends. Odd Girl Girl starts out so strong being a story about friendship and navigating through the struggles that Nari first starts the story with and then finds herself in. It has since pivoted to romance, with the friendship being more in the background, but I personally still really enjoy the webcomic.
The Fox Club
Meet Sangmok High’s Fox Club, home to the prettiest, wealthiest, and most popular girls in school. To ordinary Onyu Park, whose most extraordinary trait is being best friends with the gorgeous Chaeri Shin, the Foxes exist in a whole other world – or so she thinks – until she and Chaeri are suddenly thrown into the Fox Club headfirst! As if adjusting to high school wasn’t hard enough, the girls find themselves surrounded by prying eyes, rumors, catty schemes, and budding romance. Will Onyu and Chaeri’s friendship survive all of the drama and secrets? Who are the Foxes, really? And does Onyu have what it takes to become one of them?
This is a webcomic I’ve been following ever since the first episode was translated and posted! As you can guess, I absolutely love The Fox Club. This one is another webcomic that focuses on female friendships in high school with some angst and conflicts sprinkled in that everyone finds themselves being embroiled in one way or another. I’m making it too simple, but trust me this is a great webcomic. This one is also on hiatus, and I believe hasn’t come back on Naver yet, so there’s time to catch up before it comes back. And then someone else will be at the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens to these girls now with everything that has happened.
A DeadbEAT’s Meal
What’s better than a good meal? My name’s Jaeho and I love food. While some may call me a deadbEAT because I don’t have a job at the moment, I’m just your normal happy guy who loves eating and my girlfriend of 7 years… That is until I got a breakup text yesterday… Where did things go wrong? I keep trying to look back through the years, but I just can’t figure it out…
I’ve been reading this one for such a long time and man, the growth that all the characters have done. A DeadbEAT’s meal has a gimmick where each episode puts a spotlight on a dish, as our main character Jaeho loves food, but the story is still the main focus. And man, the story is great here as it starts with the struggles Jaeho has with getting a job and then the struggle that he experiences at the job…plus his relationship problems (both romantically and familial). The growth all the characters have gone through is so amazing. Jaeho has really grown up since the first episode and while I don’t want to really spoil anything, there’s even a character that was a real hate sink when he was first introduced but he has since become a pretty good character that I ended up liking. It does a really good job at making all of its storylines interesting.
Stealing Her Place
Yeseul’s arrival at her new school is anything but perfect. Not only does she make a terrible first impression, but she immediately becomes a target for bullying when the most popular girl in school, Sohui, notices their strikingly similar appearance. Despite being bullied and harassed every single day, Yeseul is determined not to back down. She knows that she’s just as attractive as Sohui… and that it’ll be a breeze to steal everything from her.
This one is absolutely crazy. Sometimes, you just want a story where no one is good and everyone has some shade of terrible-ness and Stealing Her Place is that webcomic. I actually read the creators’ previous webcomic, Dreaming Freedom, but I did drop off of it when I was obsessed with Void Terrium, lost my place, and then got discouraged restarting since it’s a Daily Pass title. When Stealing Freedom was first launched, it caught my eye right away and I knew who was behind it. Stealing Her Place carries over its beautiful art style as well as the writing where there are no characters that are innocent or good and I love it for it. The story is so interesting and absolutely crazy and unhinged. The Season 1 finale is going to be posted tomorrow and will go on hiatus so this is the perfect time to binge this one and experience the craziness without having to wait week to week.
Nevermore
There is nothing definitive about life after death, except the involuntary enrollment at the mysterious Nevermore Academy. Now Lenore and Annabel Lee must begin their curriculum to recover the memories of their tragic demise. Between the Dean’s macabre demeanor and the tell-tale dangers of Final Exams, both girls must learn to rely on one another and their newly acquired ghost forms, or Spectres, to not only graduate from the academy… but to earn a second chance at life.
I started this one around the middle to end of Season 1 and I came to absolutely love it. I read the creators’ previous work as well, Shiloh, but it got pretty confusing and I dropped it. It took me a while to start Nevermore since I stopped enjoying Shiloh, but I’m glad it did. I really enjoy Nevermore’s story and characters and man is the events that’s going on right now pretty crazy. The visuals are really beautiful and the designs of everyone are amazing. You can also really tell how much work went into this world and its characters. It also has a toxic relationship, which is…fun when as usual people forget the terrible things one character does. I really wonder who’s going to make it out alive and if we’ll finally see Lenore’s Spectre before the event that’s currently going on ends.
The Ki Sisters
In the shadowy heart of Seoul near Cheonggyecheon Stream lies a sinister mansion whose porch only fools would dare tread. Welcome… to the house of the Ki sisters: Jang-nyeo, Sal-gyo, Jae-rim, and Jenny. Homeschooled and raised in isolation, the four sisters and their inadvertently menacing demeanor may strike terror into the faint-hearted, but don’t judge a book by its cover: the youngest, Jenny Ki, is a scary– I mean, starry-eyed hopeless romantic who’s out to find love! The problem is… everything she knows about love is from romance novels. Will Jenny put the Ki in “kiss” or “kill”?
Even though the current arc brings along a conflict and character that makes it too real for the comedy to take the forefront; The Ki Sisters is such a funny webcomic. I started reading this when it first launched and it hooked me right in immediately as we follow Jenny on her hopeless romantic story. Her family, as well as the other families that are introduced, are pretty unique and the jokes here were a hit for me. It’s a really funny comedy webcomic, but it doesn’t get in the way of the story which is great as well.
Also yes, this is the webcomic where the”Queen Never Cry” meme came from.
Vampire Family
As a family of vampires, the Dragomirs have long stayed hidden away from humans, but middle child Natalia longs for one thing: friends. She’s convinced her family to let her go to school, and has chosen her seat neighbor, Evangelo, to be her first friend. But he is not your typical student either…
Another webcomic I’ve been following since it first launched and this is from one creator that I loved their previous webcomic too! This is the same creator as Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell, which is amazing go read it too, and I still remember how excited I was when the creator mentioned they were working on another webcomic. After patiently waiting, Vampire Family soon launched and you better believe I jumped on it. I was a bit worried that the humor wouldn’t hit as good as Love Advice, especially since it easily can go into the territory of trying too hard, but it feels just as natural as Love Advice. Vampire Family is so funny and I’ve been really enjoying the story and characters so far.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
Beautiful and intelligent, Somyung Gil has tirelessly strived to fulfill her mother’s vision of the perfect daughter. However, when her less-than-perfect younger brother is tragically found drowned in a river, doubts plague Somyung’s heart. She begins to suspect that their mother might be responsible for the unspeakable act. From then on, her paramount goal becomes escaping her mother’s grasp, while all her mother wants is for Somyung to experience the perfect life she herself was denied. Will Somyung ever truly find her freedom?
Oh geez. This one is another webcomic I’ve been following since it first launched and one that has some craziness going on. The end of Season 2 especially was so crazy and really puts on a nice bow on the weirdness of how Season 2 was structured and answers a lot of questions. It’s pretty hard to talk about this one without going into spoilers, but the story, mysteries, and characters are really interesting. Especially Somyung as she struggles to both find out the truth without being found out by her mother and getting away from her in a way that will be acceptable to her mother.
So, yep, those are my Top 10 Ongoing webcomics! The majority of them being on Webtoons. It was pretty tough picking out just 10, but man am I glad I didn’t include completed ones cause that would have been even harder. It was a really close race and I do wish I could include the other webcomics that I love, but I wanted to commit to only 10. I’m glad I decided to use April Fools day to write about what I’ve been wanting to for a while now. See you guys next time! I might post an article about tomorrow’s Nintendo Switch 2 direct.
