Games That Interested Me in 2024’s December Game Awards Showcases Part 1
Featuring games shown during: PC Gaming Show, #PitchYaGame, Indie Live Expo, Indie Awards, Wholesome Snack, Latin American Games Showcase, and Day of the Devs.
I had no idea there was a slate of showcases (+indie awards) going on. I only thought it was just The Game Awards and the Wholesome Snack Showcase (which I knew the latter was announced a month or two ago), so imagine my surprise when I saw emails about games announced at PC Gaming Show. Originally, I was going to not check these out since I have a lot to do, but I couldn’t stay away. So here are the ones that ended up interesting me. Of course, I’m going to link to all the showcase streams as my taste won’t match everyone’s. Also, if a game is showcased in more than one showcase, I’ll only include it once.

This one was a mix of already released games and upcoming games. I decided to include the already released games since I didn’t know any of them.

This caught my interest partly due to its “create a weapon with words” mechanic, partly due to the chosen art style, and partly because I used to play this boardgame that was based on 1001 Nights (Tales of Arabian Nights) as a kid (and miss playing it, the board game was so good and I wished I got the chance to read the big book of tales before I had to move away from my dad).
A relaxing idle fishing game that waits for you at the bottom of the screen while you do other things. CATCH, COLLECT and DISPLAY fishes!

Indie Awards
Your farm is under attack! Fly, harvest, grow crops & whack enemies with your shape-shifting one-button superpowers as you seek revenge from your evil nemesis, Korpo, who has captured your mom & friends! An action-puzzle farming sim featuring chain reactions and combos.
Demo available. I actually played the demo for this one and gave my thoughts. If you like farming sims, this is worth checking out.

Oh my gosh! I’m so happy we’re getting another Duck Detective game! I know my review for The Secret Salami hasn’t been posted yet, but I did express my wish for more Duck Detective games despite some cons that I noticed and here we are! I’m also pretty sure The Secret Salami came out pretty quickly (aka a couple months) after they announced and released a demo too. You best believe I’m picking this up.

Honestly, this is the trailer that should be shown. Or maybe have a combination of this trailer and the other trailer. I was not sold on the game with the other trailer, but I was with this one.

Weirdly enough, I already had this one wishlisted, but I loved the mechanic of using your camera to alter the path of your attacks.
A retro-styled rampage in both 3D and 2D! Bash some Skulls, Break Stuff, and Rise as a Legend!
Go Slimey Go! is an easy-to-pick-up game for players of all ages! Help Slimey, our tiny slippery protagonist, visit his friends for some well deserved teatime after some thrilling platforming challenges! Just make sure not to get caught in the middle of the ultimate showdown between good and evil!
Day of the Devs
I really loved this showcase. It’s pretty quick to get to the games and the games had enough time to either talk about the gameplay or show the trailer that showcases the gameplay.
“I am a shooting star! A spark meant to shine and vanish in a blink. But I will travel! I will mark my trail in every firmament. I will live to see the universe.” Faraway is an immersive, both challenging and chill, procedurally generated audiovisual experience about creating constellations.
Honestly, it’s creative and weird enough to get me on board. Send me in coach, I’m ready to make constellations!
Infiltrate a hardboiled, rain-slicked city of taboo, where ritual magic and cursed artefacts set apart those with power from those without. Sleight of Hand is a 3rd-person Stealth Action Card-Sim about taking down the coven you used to run with.
Combined the two genres I don’t like or not great at, but I can’t deny that I’m interested and may still grab it. Also, I love the VA for the protagonist and her lines.
Explore the open seas and uncover the kingdom’s dark secrets as you expressively platform your way across dozens of locales, upgrading your gear every step of the way!
