Love Your Backlog 2021
Trying to love my backlog mountain, one game at a time
I have no idea how I ended up finding out about this community event, if I’d have to guess probably one of those days when I was super sleep deprived, but I’m going to take part in my first #LoveYourBacklog event despite being the new kid on the block. Love Your Backlog was started by Later Levels and Ace Asunder two years ago, so if any other bloggers out there are interested in participating, you can check out this post for more details.
While I don’t necessarily hate my backlog, I don’t really love it. I do feel a little bad, with some games guilty, when seeing just how many games I didn’t complete or straight up didn’t start. Well, this year, I’ll stop trying to let the guilt get to me and start loving it. I’ll also try to complete games before starting new ones.
Total games currently in my backlog are:
400
To be honest, I thought it would be a lot more. I’d still want to decrease it, but it’s not as bad as I pictured it. Well, let’s get into some questions:
The effect that the 2020 apocalypse had on your backlog
Nothing. If anything, it let me delude myself into thinking I’d be able to finish so many more games. Which, I didn’t really. If anything, it got me to get even more games without finishing any to break even.
The oldest game in terms of release date
While I had a whole paragraph written about Final Fantasy 10, I completely forgot that I actually recently bought the first Persona Game (Revelations: Persona). Persona 5 was my first Persona game and it made me fall in love, so of course I got my hands on a PSVita to get Persona 4 Golden. And since I ended up loving P4G even more, I bought all of the previous Persona games. Half to see how these games were (since I wanted to get Persona 3 anyway) and to possibly talk about it in a blog that you’re at now. I’m only an hour into it, but man does it escalate faster than you would think.
A game you bought on day one, only to not play it
This one is pretty easy. I don’t normally buy games day one, but when I do, I usually do play it at least a couple hours before something else gets my attention and causing me to accidentally ignore the game for months. The only game I got on release day and haven’t played even a minute of is Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. This is mainly because I want to complete Breath of the Wild first and, well, that might be a while. Especially when I recently restarted since I don’t remember where I last ended years ago and wanting to at least complete all of the Shrines.
The game which has spent the most time on your backlog
This one is pretty hard, considering I would have no idea when my Dad got the games that he did. So, I’ll attribute this to two games that I was never able to complete: Final Fantasy 10 and Resident Evil 4. Both of these are due to my Dad’s Playstation, which I was only able to visit him on weekends, broke down one week so I was never able to finish them. Though, Resident Evil 4 is also because I was too scared. I was only a kid after all.
I actually remember playing, and loving, the Blitzball minigame from FF10 and huddling at the start of a wooden water path because I was just too scared to walk forward in RE4.
The most recent addition to your library
Super Mario 3D World + Browser’s Fury! Despite trying to lessen my buying impulses, I just couldn’t resist, and well, who can resist cat versions of the Mario characters. Hopefully I keep my own promise of getting to it after completing some of the games I’m currently playing.
The person responsible for adding the most entries to your backlog, due to their good recommendations
Myself. Considering that I have a broad taste, only hating a few genres, there’s a lot of games I get excited over and want to play. It certainly doesn’t help when a sale happens and the discounted price for games on my wishlist are just too low to resist.
Again, you can check out the post over at LaterLevels if you want to take part as well. And I’ll see you guys again next month for the next part of this event, #MaybeInMarch, where I’ll be tackling Final Fantasy 10 and/or Resident Evil 4. Good thing these two got re-releases.
