Interesting Games Announced During Playstation State of Play and Tokyo Game Show
So many games to look forward to!
Recently, there was a bunch of showcases and I thought to compile them all together into one post. Also, the review I’m working on needs more time. Anyway, here are all the announcements that peaked my interest and I’ll link the original broadcast so you can watch it as well. I’m basing this on my taste, so I’m sure there were games announced that I won’t be mentioning. Also, for the Tokyo Game Show, I’ll link to the playlist with all of the livestreams as I’ll only mention the ones that have games that interested me.
Playstation State of Play
Team Asobi has announced Astro Bot will receive new speedrun levels and 10 new Special Bots to rescue from this Fall.
I haven’t been able to play Astro Bot yet, but it’s definitely nice to get some more (speedrunnung) levels and more bots to save.
Moonhood is thrilled to announce The Midnight Walk, a dark fantasy adventure made of clay, coming to PS5 and PS VR2 in Spring 2025. Step into a handcrafted world and journey through five eerie tales of fire, guiding your little lantern friend, Potboy, while outsmarting the flame eating monsters lurking in the shadows
I’m really surprised I didn’t hear this one being talked about. I personally didn’t really enjoy Lost in Random, but man this one grabbed me real quick. Not to mention how unique it looks and how it’s animated. The trailer is already scary, so I can imagine how it will be in the full game (especially those that will be playing in VR).
Today’s State of Play brought us the first gameplay of the upcoming PS5 action adventure Hell is Us. The game won’t hand answers to players on a silver platter; instead, they will need to pay attention to what they see and hear to connect the dots and make their own discoveries.
Another one that quickly caught my attention. It looks pretty good, though I want to see more about it.
The Father of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi brings his latest RPG to PS5 December 5.
Can’t get enough of JRPGs, especially ones that look interesting, even though there’s no way I have time. I think I’ll research this one before release date, but I love the visuals so far.
Fear the Spotlight creeps onto PS5 and PS4 just in time for Halloween, launching October 22. Fear the Spotlight is an atmospheric third-person horror adventure with a disturbing mystery to unravel. Sneak into school after hours with Vivian and Amy, survive a séance gone wrong, solve tactile puzzles, and, whatever you do, stay out of the spotlight…
I’ve been waiting for this one for a while and I’m glad this got a release date again! And that it’s coming to a console. I definitely will check this one out.
Aloy makes a return to PS5 in a few short months as LEGO Horizon Adventures launches on November 14, with plenty of bonuses if you pre-order.
I haven’t played Horizon Zero Dawn yet (it’s on my backlog), but I can’t deny that the Lego game peaks my interest. It looks so colorful and fun, while also being ready to pressure me into collecting everything haha. Now to decide whether I should play the original first or the Lego version first…
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered launches October 31 on PS5 and PC. It features over 10 hours of re-recorded conversation, mocap and countless graphical improvements that bring the game to the same visual fidelity as its critically acclaimed sequel Horizon Forbidden West, and takes full advantage of PS5’s power and features.
Well, looks like I have the option to upgrade if I want to (a point to a patient gamer already owning this title). I don’t like the fact the price of the original was increased, even though I don’t have to worry about it. They did mention re-recording conversations mocap, which I kind of took as also re-recording the audio, so I think I’ll wait and see the comparisons since I did hear the voicework in the original game was subpar.
Stellar Blade Update + NieR Automata Collab
Shift Up announced the upcoming Stellar Blade x NieR: Automata DLC, packed with exciting new content. On the same day, a new Photo Mode feature will be added to Stellar Blade and be available to all players. More soon on the DLC, including its release date. That’s not all… the full original soundtrack of Stellar Blade will be available today on over 30 streaming platforms across the globe.
Stellar Blade and NieR? In the same game? Is this a cross-over episode? Lame Mr. Peanut Butter reference aside, I’m glad Stellar Blade is getting more updates (even though this is also a game I want to play but haven’t had the chance to yet). I’m definitely going to rock the 2B outfit (though I think I’ll keep Eve’s long hair if that’s an option).
>Also, I would have totally been into the Chroma Collection (PS5 console covers and controllers) if one of the colors available was pink (not hot pink).
Tokyo Game Show
TGS2024 Gamera Games
KARMA: The Dark World is a first-person cinematic psychological thriller set in a dystopian world where the Leviathan Corporation is omnipresent. The time is 1984, the place is East Germany, and things are not quite what they seem.
Honestly, before now, I’ve only seen screenshots of the game, but man did the TV Heads pique my interest. Same I won’t be able to play the demo, but I’ll see if there’s anyone that posts a demo playthrough once the demo is out for a while. And hopefully one of the youtubers that I watch will play it.
Build a vertical city in a world of a tower. Lead the dwellers to gather resources from the sky and build upwards. Make vertical transport and climbs up. Explore the creatures and sceneries in higher skies.
I know city builders aren’t my type of game at all, but I can’t help but get interested in some that are particularly interesting. Hey, maybe this will be one that clicks for me like Frostpunk did. Man, don’t you hate it when you end up loving a game in a genre you don’t play and then you chase down that same feeling?
In a mansion surrounded by mist, as the curse made by the Alchemist and Fairy reappears, the danger is quietly lurking in the darkness, awaiting its visitors. Follow Harrod and Willie to unravel an incredible story in Mercury Abbey, and go on an adventure that you would only find in mystery novels.
This one looks really interesting and it’s coming out soon. There’s also a demo!
A story game dominated by suspense, crime, and dark humor. In the midst of meticulously polished art and a gripping story, the history of the demise of the Osan Giant Buddha slowly opens.
I wished we got shown more cause this one so far has great visuals and the story bit we got seemed interesting. Plus, the title really grabs your attention. Also seemed like past me thought the same as I already had it wishlisted. It’s not listed as having English support, but I do hope it does eventually.
“Illusion Box” is the first virtual reality entertainment project of the 21st century. However, malicious rumors and computer virus infections forced the company to shut down the project. Now, the long-abandoned “Illusion Box” devices are being reactivated…
Another one that I already wishlisted just based on the screenshots and description. The trailer definitely got me more interested.
Too Tired To Die is a rapid-paced PvP, Vampire Survivors-like game. One fateful day, a cola delivery was mixed up with one for Forgetfulness Tea… All employees who sipped the netherworld beverage lost their souls, drifting into the River of the Dead.
Liked the music and this one seems interesting as well. Though, I don’t think it’s going to be a game for me since I don’t play the genres this game is covering.
To save her “twin sister” Lia who was captured inside a mirror, Ail is on her journey. She has no special power but going into the mirror and walking on the reflections. Manipulate the mirrors and guide Ail through this world where reflections intersect reality. And discover the truth in the mirror.
Honestly, wasn’t really into this one until gameplay was shown and it was revealed to be a puzzle adventure.
DICEOMANCER is a roguelike deck-building game. Though you long for a peaceful life, you’re forced to embark on an adventure. In this world of swords, magic, and guns, make good use of your dice and deck to find a way back to tranquility! What can the dice be used for? To change… anything.
I’m terrible at deck-builders, but man do I love the look of this one. There’s a demo available so looks like I’ll be adding this one to my list of demos to play.
This is a stupid game that might include Trolley Problem, Ship of Theseus, Brain in a Vat, Infinite Monkey, Sisyphus, Prisoner’s Dilemma, Schrodinger’s Cat, etc.
I didn’t like the narrator in the beginning, but I don’t know, it sold me on the game by the end of the trailer. This one is already out and has a demo, so another one on the list.
TGS2024 Microsoft
The Tanuki Festival is just a month away, and the shrine is in disrepair. Follow Pon, a well meaning, if a bit lazy Tanuki with a part-time job at the Post Office, as he works to restore the shrine before summer ends. Deliver packages, make friends, and get the shrine ready for the big festival!
I’m weak to cute mail delivery games.
Threads of Time is an era-spanning, turn-based RPG inspired by the timeless classics. Embark on a journey through time, gather a party of charismatic heroes from across ages, and uncover a plot that threatens to unravel the past, present and future.
This one looks really interesting, especially since the visuals and art style change depending on what time period you’re in. I’ll keep a keen eye on this one.
The throne sits empty after the king’s assassination. With no heirs, the will of the late king decrees that the next monarch will be elected by the people, & thus begins your fight for the throne..
Man, I hate how Microsoft is trying so hard to make it seem like Metaphor isn’t coming to Playstation (it is), but I’m so hyped for Metaphor: ReFantazio. I never suspected a demo to be released and I absolutely loved it. Loved it so much I’m so tempted to pre-order it. Though, it makes me feel guilty since I didn’t complete the goal I set for myself.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land
The theme of this title is “memory.” There are moments when everyone must confront their past and their own “memories.” “Atelier Yumia” is a story about Yumia and her companions confronting their memories and, despite their uncertainties, forging ahead on the path they believe in.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A NEW ATELIER GAME!!! I know the only Atelier game I’ve played so far is Ryza 1, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be excited for Yumia! This looks so good and so fun! I do plan on playing Ryza 2 and 3 and the previous Atelier games (I recently bought Ayesha literally yesterday).
“I must eliminate them…ALL…” The bodiless “Hyoki” hunts down the brain-devouring “Slitterheads”, lurking in the alleys of a neon-lit city
Slitterhead looks cool and seems like it’ll be a good game, but I’m going to stay cautiously optimistic. I really hoped we would get a demo, but looks like we won’t. I can’t wait to see how this game turned out.
TGS2024 Level-5
Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time
Begin a fantastic life on a ruined island, and embark on a great adventure into the past! Gather friends, craft, and build your own city!
I didn’t pick up Fantasy Life on the 3DS mainly due to this game being announced. Not sure whether I’ll be able to play this with my backlog, but it seems so interesting and looks cute. Plus I can be a chef.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam
From a series with over 18 million units sold worldwide.
Solve epic riddles as you progress through the story of this puzzle/fantasy adventure.
I like Professor Layton, but the story is going to be a make or break thing for me as I have dropped Layton games that didn’t grab my interest after 2-3 hours and I was dreading going back to play.
>These didn’t get showcased, but DECAPOLICE is also an upcoming game from Level-5. However, it was delayed a couple days before their TGS showcase aired. There’s also the new Yokai Watch game called Holy Horror Mansion which looked really good. Just have to wait and see how it’ll turn out since this was just a concept teaser.
TGS2024 Capcom
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
Miles Edgeworth’s dramatic turnabouts take center stage! Experience both Ace Attorney Investigations games in one gorgeous collection! Investigate crime scenes and solve tough, intriguing cases through logic and deduction. When Edgeworth’s past and present collide, his future begins!
Just a reminder that Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Collection was released. I really want this one, but I don’t think I should pick it up until I complete the Apollo Justice trilogy.
TGS2024 The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-
A new adventure from the creators of the Danganronpa and Zero Escape series! 15 students are tasked with defending a school from grotesque monsters for 100 days. Can they make it to the end? And will they survive long enough to uncover the truth?
I’m so excited to get another game from the creator(s) of Danganronpa. I loved Master Detective Archives: Rain Code and I know I’ll love this one too based on what we’ve seen so far.
TGS2024 Sega/Atlus
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain & his crew. Engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and treasure.
This is honestly so on brand for Majima. This game looks like it’s going to be so funny and fun and now I have to resist temption getting this as I have the goal of playing through the whole Yakuza series in order (of which I only finished one so far). Seems unrealistic the longer time passes, but someday I’ll get into the Yakuza mood.
The throne sits empty after the king’s assassination. With no heirs, the will of the late king decrees that the next monarch will be elected by the people, & thus begins your fight for the throne..
Another showcase for Metaphor and it deserves it. Go, check out the demo! It’s not just on Xbox, it’s on Playstation too!
Make adorable friends and discover creative adventures across retro re-releases of 2 lovable games! Use your imagination to rebuild a town in MySims, and help a cute magical land become an even better place in MySims Kingdom.
I never suspected MySims to have a comeback. I actually have one of the games and I never knew it was a whole series. I might end up picking this up.
TGS2024 Infinity Nikki
Nikki and Momo embark on a new adventure to travel across the fantastical nations of Miraland, each with its own unique culture and environment.
Players will encounter many characters and whimsical creatures while collecting stunning outfits of various styles. Some of these outfits possess magical abilities that are crucial for exploration.
I am so ready for Infinity Nikki. I am so into dress up games and I go by the rule of cute in games that show you what you’re wearing. Like, back when I was playing World of Warcraft as a kid I had a bunch of outfits I would switch into when I was just hanging out (I remember it was a lot of dresses). I’m so excited to play a dress up open world game where the outfits grant you abilities. Especially so since this is going to be on consoles since I don’t have a mobile device that can play games (or else I would 100% be playing the Nikki mobile games).
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian
A new RPG from the Atelier series. Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian is coming in 2025!
A new adventure with new protagonists and an original story in the world of “Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator” is coming to PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Nintendo Switch™ and Steam® as a “completely offline” title.
Building on the experiences of the Atelier series while also evolving, we invite you to look forward to another story of “Resleriana”.
I have no idea where exactly this was announced during the Tokyo Game Show showcases, but apparently another Atelier game was announced as well. I totally must have missed it if so, but so excited that there were two Atelier announcements! I can’t play Atelier Resleriana so it’s exciting to have this set to release as it is supposed to be a standalone story (which is still set it Atelier Resleriana universe).
