Demo Impressions Part 25

Featuring: Eyes That Hypnotise, Flesh Psychosis, Nekograms, Palm Cracker, and Place Icebergs Apart

Another Next Fest, more demo impressions to post about! It may be February when these demos dropped, but who knows what month it will be when this post is published. If any of these still have demos when I post this, they’ll have a (*) as always.

Eyes That Hypnotise*

Out Now | Review

Not going to lie, once I played Cats Organized Neatly the itch for this type of puzzle was itched for me. And when a similar game comes out, it’s enough for me to play the demo. It doesn’t help that really you’re just looking at different reskins. These puzzle games are ones where you have different animals or breed of an animal, which each unique one taking on a different shape. You then use these to fill in the grid that you’re given. However, Eyes That Hypnotise drew me in. It’s those eyes. It was just like when Cats Organized Neatly just dropped and I wanted to play more of it. The visuals and the animals eyes dilating really carries this. Plus, it helps that there is actually a hint system here. Sometimes you just can’t figure it out and want to know where one piece goes and this title lets you! Also, each animal has their own little bio, which they nail, and they even have a couple sounds they can do when you pick them or set them down. My favorite so far are the budgies cause they can say “okay”, which is the cutest.

Flesh Psychosis

Out Now

This one is a weird one, especially so if you don’t read the game description. At least for the demo version as you’re thrown right into things. Basically this game is about you cooking up meals for the woman named Madline who I’m pretty sure is a Zombie. To do that, you need ingredients. And to get ingredients, you need to match them. Each level starts with a handful of ingredients already in this container and you’ll use those to start the matching process as you’ll get ingredients, one at a time, to drop. Only the ingredients that you drop, which has a glow to them, can match with other ingredients that are the same. It’ll match no matter if it’s just touching one other ingredient or ten of them and it keeps its dropped item status (hence the glow it has) so when it comes into contact with a similar ingredient it’ll match. Certain ingredients will drop more, lower leveled, ingredients when matched and halfway through the round it’ll dump a bunch more ingredients in. Oh yeah, each level consists of three rounds which have their own set amount of drops. Between each round, the funnel will also open for a couple seconds and any ingredients that fall in are lost. To help you out even more, there are three actions that you can do if you have enough bone points (different from the bone ingredient) like changing the ingredient.

Every level lets you cook two meals and your goal each round is to get enough ingredients to cook one. If you do, it’s all good and Madline will do a creepy laugh and it looks like she takes damage (though she’s fine). All you need to unlock the next level is make two meals. Each level gets harder and you get different ingredients to match. However, there does seem to be health as not being able to make a meal will deal damage and there is an ingredient that deals damage if it exits through the funnel. There’s also a score so you can aim to get the highest score you can.

I liked Flesh Psychosis. It’s weird for sure, but it was a bit addicting and I liked the theming and art style. I’ll be keeping my eye on this one.

Nekograms*

Out Now

This one was cute. This is a puzzle game where you want to get all cats in a level to take a nap. Which they will only do if they’re on a cushion (or cushions). Taking place on a grid, the twist here is that cushions can only move vertically while cats can only move horizontally. Plus, you can test yourself to see if you can do it in the minimum amount of moves needed. It does also through in some tricks like objects being in the way (which you need to knock into a nearby grid block that needs to be empty), long cats that require their whole body to be on the cushion(s), and long cushions. At least you can wake up a cat to move their cushion. This demo included a whooping 40 levels too and cats also have cute things on their heads. Another puzzle game puzzle fans will like.

Palm Cracker

Out Now | Free!

This one was interesting and I do really like how the game’s aesthetics matched with the game’s premise to add to the immersion. Palm Cracker puts you in the shoes of someone that mysterious received a PalmPilot from a notorious serial killer known as the Crypt Killer. The PalmPilot actually has a confession and his true identity, however it’s not going to be given up as easily as just opening up the app. You see, the Crypt Killer is so confident because he locked his confession and true identity behind layers of puzzles and codes that need to be deciphered. He’s so confident he even put in a library app that tells you about each cipher. It’s a wonder why no one has decoded everything yet haha. Though, having to decode words for passwords using ciphers isn’t the only thing as it seems there are some puzzles that were added in as well. There are seven levels that you need to get through before you’ll get the knowledge needed to decode the confession password hint. Perhaps you’ll be able to decode everything and bring the Crypt Killer to justice.

At first, I wasn’t really into it, but I was by the time the demo ended. Which was once you do the Level 2 puzzles. It was partly due to thinking the game expected me to know and guess what ciphers were used and seemingly clicking every other app other than the library and the Level 1 password protected one. And then of course I messed up decoding it by one letter. I got into it once I got through that hurdle though and now I can’t wait to play the full game. Also, it turns out that this is going to be a free game, which is even better!

Place Icebergs Apart*

Out Now

This one is pretty self explanatory. Each level you’ll be given some icebergs which you have to place in the ocean in the indicated area. However, they need to be places apart not together. Some levels are pretty easy, but some are pretty tricky. Especially since you can’t flip the icebergs you’re given. I made it through most of the demo levels, but it also looks like it’s going to get even more tricky with the inclusion of animals being on the icebergs. If you’re someone that like these types of puzzles, you’d probably like this one.
