Flock Guide: How to Progress in the Mossy Forest

Find yourself stuck in the Mossy Forest and have no idea what to do?

While the game does do a good job telling you what you need to do to progress through the story most of the time, sometimes it is a bit vague. The mossy forest-y area is the one that I got caught up on and I thought about making a guide to hopefully help others that find themselves stuck here as well! This will have spoilers, of course, so check this out when you’re absolutely stuck!

You probably found the cave that one of the big mushrooms have, as the game does teach you to explore to progress. However, unlike early in the game where you scan the first strange residue, finding the cave doesn’t tell you anything other than it’s obviously a key location. So how do you progress from here?

If you want a hint before I reveal what the answer is, the hint is look at what’s around the cave. Is there a creature that shares the same design?

Alright, well, if you still don’t know, the answer is Crystal Sprugs! You have to charm at least one Crystal Sprug and bring it to the cave. When you do, Aunt Jane will mention how weirdly it’s acting and will finally put it as a task to charm 5 of them. There’s also a line that Aunt Jane will say about the Crystal Sprug(s) acting weird when you’re hovering, which is them pointing towards the cave, but strangely enough I got this text after I got the task pinned. Once you get 5, you go back to the cave, let these little guys do their thing, and charm the creature hiding in here (which is basically the game’s second boss).

The Crystal Sprugs are located where there is a pond with crystals and they blend in good enough.

Crystal Sprug Locations

There are 5 Crystal Sprugs in the game, all having different colors (even though 4 of them are just green…) and all having different spawn spots. There are 3 spots in the wetlands and 2 in the mossy forest area. These little guys won’t respawn if you’re still getting them for the story task, but once you finish that area’s story tasks they’ll spawn in like normal! Here are the locations on the map:
