Nintendo Direct E3 2021 Recap

Saving E3 and taking all our money in the meantime.

With most of these E3 showcases being terrible (with some wasting their time slot and thus all of our time), Nintendo comes in with the best showcase out of everyone and managing to take everyone’s money. Of course we have some disappointments as we didn’t get any updates on Splatoon 3 or Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but if they weren’t shown, that means they didn’t have anything to say about them anyway (and would have been a disappointment in ACNH’s case).

  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
Command an army in a turn based strategy game where your expertise in being a tactical advisor is needed to turn the tide to your favor. This will release on December 3.
  • Astria Ascending
Explore the fantastical realm of Orcanon, customize a team of demi-gods, and unlease devastating attacks in turn based combat. This will release on September 30.
  • Cruis’n Blast
Blast your way through 30 over the top tracks with up to 4 players. There are also 23 vehicles to choose from from supercars to monster trucks. This will be arriving this year.
  • Danganronpa Decadence (1 + 2 + V3) & S: Ultimate Summer Camp
All three (mainline) Danganronpa games are coming to the Switch as well as a once boardgame featured in one of the games being expanded into its own RPG where you develop Danganronpa characters, gather money through battle, upgrade equipment, and defeat bosses. Both are slated to be released later this year.
All 4 will only be packaged together in physical editions, while you have to buy them separately digitally.
  • Doom Eternal DLC
In this first campaign expansion, eliminate Hell’s newest threats in demon infested ruins and rainswept terrain. This is actually available now!
  • Dragon Ball Z: Kakorat + A New Power Awakens Set
Relive the story of Goku and other Z Fighters in this action RPG through 4 sagas and face off iconic foes. The main game and this DLC will be arriving on Steam on September 24.
Also pro tip, don’t go to Bandai Namco’s showcase thinking they’ll show more of this. They didn’t.
  • Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water
A horror adventure game where you play as a young woman that needs to cast out the ghosts coming after her with the Camera Obscura and explore the mysteries surrounding Mt. Hikami. This is releasing this year.
  • Game & Watch: Legend of Zelda
Oh great, another thing for scalpers to scope up. This version of the Game & Watch will include the first three classic Zelda games and will cost about $50 when it releases on November 12.
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass
We got an update on the season pas update waves, with the first one coming June 18 (adding weapons, enemies, and an expanded roster) and another coming in November (bringing in vignettes, stages, new battle skills, and an expanded roster.
  • Just Dance 2022
Just Dance is coming to Switch on November 4.
  • Life is Strange Remasterd Collection & True Colors
We were all wondering why Life is Strange hasn’t been ported over to the Switch yet and I guess we got our answer sooner than we thought. It turns out they were waiting for Nintendo to make the announcement! While I’m not sure whether or not I want to double dip, I do wonder how the performance will be. True Colors is releasing on September 10 while the Remasters later this year.
  • Mario Golf: Super Rush
The Mario Golf game is still on track to releasing on June 25, so get ready to play some golf and speed through the courses with Mario and friends.
  • Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
We actually already got a look at this sequel during the Ubisoft Forward, but this will have the Mario franchise to join up with Rabbids in a more sci-fi setting where you get to explore planets, find secrets, and stop Cursa. This is releasing next year.
  • Mario Party Superstars
Looks like we’re getting a new Mario Party game, except this time it’ll come out with online multiplayer at launch, will have 100 classic minigames,  and 5 classic boards to play on. This will release on October 29.
  • Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
The Guardians of the Galaxy game, with the Guardians based more on their comic book counterparts, is coming to the Switch on October 26.
  • Metroid Dread
Metroid fans were begging for Metroid Prime 4 to finally get some news, but some knew that this was a high expectation. Well, little did we all know that we were going to get news. Well, it’s just news that they are still working on it… but then they basically said here’s Metroid while you wait on Metroid with Metroid Dread’s announcement. This will feature a new horror feel as Samus will face against new terrifying enemies and will even release in time for Halloween on October 8.
I’m someone that hasn’t played any Metroid game, but even I’m interested in this title.
  • Monster Hunter Stories 2
While we were already shown this game a lot and got a long segment in Capcom’s showcase, this is a turn-based RPG story where you become a Rider who has a faithful encounter with a Wyverian girl who has an egg with the potential to hatch into a Rathalos. This is releasing on July 9 with a demo coming on June 25.
  • Smash Bros Ultimate Welcomes TEKKEN!
For those that play Ultimate, Kazuya Mishima is going to join the rooster, with his introduction showing him dropping characters off a cliff. We only got but a taste as Nintendo will go more in depth on June 28.
  • Shin Megami Tensei V
Now having a release date of November 12, we’ll finally be able to dive into this new SMT game where the ambitions of a god and human clash amidst a dying world. We got a look into the gameplay and it seems like this is taking some cues from Persona 5 as the ability to talk and recruit Shadows is being added.
  • Strange Brigade
Available now, blast through an army of mummified monstrosities and solve puzzles in booby trapped ruins. You can go alone or play with others.
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania
Coming out on October 5, this contains Super Money Ball 1, 2, and Deluxe; featuring over 300 levels and 12 minigames for you to do and challenge your friends to beat.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
We got some more news on BOTW2 and a release window of next year! It showed some new locales such as Link falling through the sky (which has to be a call back to Skyward Sword), Hoblin fortresses coming up from the ground, rune abilities being more powerful to go head to head with hazards, and even a new rune power that looks like it might be a portal that puts you on the other side of a platform (kind of like you worming your way through the cracks). Looks like I really have to finish BOTW before this comes out.
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2
This remaster of an iconic skateboarding game is coming to the Switch on June 25.
  • Two Point Campus
It’s time to build the university of your dreams where you’ll build, hire staff, and run a university packed with wild courses. And those that loved Two Point Hospital will love this one. This is coming sometime this year.
  • WarioWare: Get It Together!
I swear just a couple days ago I mentioned that there needs to be a new WarioWare game to come to the Switch. I loved the WarioWare DS game and I’m so happy we are finally getting another installment. Control Wario and friends (which will all have their own abilities) as you dive into over 200 quick, quirky microgames filled with frantic fun either by yourself or with a friend. This will release on September 10.
  • Worms Rumble
Coming soon on June 23, this is a real time arena based 32 player cross-platform combat game where you wield a variety of weapons with worms.
